Phonological Awareness skills are essential to successful reading and spelling skills. Missing phonological awareness skills are one of the best predictors of reading failure and almost 20% of children do not acquire these skills on their own and need explicit instruction. Most states now have legislation to ensure the instruction and practice of these skills during early reading instruction grade levels.
